Luke the Drifter is about a Vietnam veteran suffering from post traumatic stress disorder who finds it difficult to adjust to normal society. He moves to the Florida Keys where he is given the name Luke the Drifter by a beautiful woman who has problems of her own. They fall in love, but Stella Conners will not allow the affair to prosper because she has terminal cancer and keeps it secret from Luke until the very end of her stay in the Keys. Luke gets into and out of trouble until he signs up for a four-year tour of duty with a civilian mercenary corporation where he is used as an assassin. The story moves from Key Largo, to London, Paris, and Cape Town, South Africa. Luke the Drifter is actually Robert Greyeagle, a Cherokee Indian. The tale is fiction, but based on a true story.
