This beautiful book of portraits highlights potters of Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico. The book contains fifty-one stunning photographic images beautifully reproduced and printed by the award winning Gardner Lithograph. This simply, yet elegantly designed book features both well established and emerging artists from various families within Santa Clara Pueblo. Adjacent to each portrait is an example of the artist's pottery, along with a statement by the artist. The pottery shown exemplifies the incredible range of styles and designs that have evolved over the past century. Through his portraits, the author/photographer, Neil Chapman, provides a glimpse into the lives of a quiet people's dignity and pride--pride in their craftsmanship and pride in their traditions. The artists' statements echo this as well. Viewers of Chapman's beautiful portrayal of Santa Clara Pueblo artists are sure to come away with a greater insight into who these people are and a better understanding of their proud tradition. This book is the first to highlight so many artists from one pueblo--69 artists (in 51 portraits) from Santa Clara Pueblo. The book is dedicated to Teresita Naranjo, who passed away in January 1999. Other artists included: Angela Baca, Autumn Borts, Tammy Garcia, Gregory Lonewolf, Paul Speckled Rock, Ron Suazo, Roxanne Swentzell, and Nancy Youngblood.
