This guide to Paris offers a complete history of the city and the people who have shaped its destiny, from its earliest settlement as Roman "Lutetia Parisiorum" with a few hundred inhabitants, to the metropolis of 20 centuries later, at the centre of a conurbation with a population exceeding twelve millions.
